Great place to stay! Traditional, beautiful and relaxing. Rooms are comfortable and very cosy, people are very polite and helpful. Traditional Japanese breakfast is awesome in this place. Taste of Curry soup will stay with me for long time! Highly recommended!

The staff at this place is extremely friendly. Very accommodating. Japanese breakfast was amazing.

Property is a little far away. Great to get away from the noise and hustle and bustle, just get concerned on find ing a ride back to hotel if you are out late.

The breakfast was simple and perfect and the room was spacious and futon so comfortable. Getting into town was very easy with the bus as well as coming back to the property.

I had to get use to only one shower on one floor with multiple people, but it was all apart of the experience.

After the hustle and bustle that Tokyo offers, we wanted to escape the city life and experience the quiet side of Japan. This was the perfect place. This traditional ryokan is in the country side within 10-15 minutes from Arashiyama's bamboo forest. It was everything we wanted and more, especially the garden.

This place is really far from anything and really not the ryokan experience that we were looking for. Although the room was comfortable, it was not a good value.. way too expensive for what it offers.

Location and space. By the pictures it seems to be really surrounded by nature and the “public hot bath” description is a bit misleading. We thought we would have access to an onsen or sento, but it was mainly an old public/shared bathroom. If you want to really experience a ryokan, with relaxing atmosphere, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Breakfast and landscape setting. Our corner room has a nice view

    Air conditioning need more servicing.

Very pretty Japanese Garden and kind staff. The traditional breakfast was exceptional!

It smelt very strongly of cigarette smoke in the main rooms and hallways which was our main issue. Our room was very small and I was under the impression that there was an onsen on sight which there was not.

A quiet and super clean spot—perfect for a break from the busy Kyoto vibe. Great value overall, and the unagi at the restaurant was seriously good. There’s a cute little town nearby that’s perfect for an evening walk, and a lovely café with amazing almond chocolate logs. Would definitely stay again!

Only thing not many facilities but for us it was perfect.

The Ryokan is location away from the heart of the city but only a 4 min walk from a bus stop.

The different meals were excellent and served very quickly.

I quite enjoyed my stay at the Ryokan Yamazaki. The rooms were very large compared to other hotel rooms that we have been to in Japan and everyone we met there was super nice including the guests. Was definitely a vibe change to go from big city life of Tokyo to a quiet stay in the hills.Location is a bit out of the way but there is a bus stop less than a 2 minute walk away which can take you into the main Kyoto city center. There are quite a few shrines within nearby walking distance which were very cool and I would recommend checking them out.The staff were exceptionally friendly, they were all so lovely and nice. We were able to check in an hour early which was so awesome (and lucky because it was cold and raining outside so we were very grateful)Room felt huge after staying in one of the hotels in TokyoBeds are futons on tatami floors and they had spare in the closet if you wanted more cushioning - there was also extra blankets which was very good because it was very cold during the night. They provided Yukatas which were pretty comfy to wear and felt like you could enjoy a bit of the Japanese culture in a way. They have a restaurant downstairs and we ordered dinner and the traditional Japanese breakfast. Can't remember the name of the dinner we had but it was something Pork cutlet bowl related and that was super super good. The breakfast wasnt bad but wasn't anything special either - they do provide a "Western" option. My main problem was the bathroom being in a separate building that you had to walk down to. The weather during our stay was absolutely freezing and having to walk down to the shower wasn't ideal and walking back up to the room after getting warm and clean wasn't fun either. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem during the warmer weather months and we did get pretty unlucky with the rain (and also some snow).

Communication was not great, unfortunately. I messaged them a few times, asking about food reservations etc, but never received a reply. Maybe a language thing? It’s a bit out of the way, so we were very lucky my daughter went yo ask about food and they told us we had 1 minute to order and they were closing. They asked about breakfast when we checked in, but nothing about dinner which was a shame. They were friendly enough, but I don’t think the English was great so they would rather not communicate. The actual room was nice, the garden not as big as I thought it would be for the price. It was nice, but for what I paid for one night I think I expected a bit more. I would say the communication let them down, the place is very put if the main Kyoto area, there is a bus stop a 3 min walk away. I walked to Aryashima with the help of Google maps, took about 50 minutes. The nearest Kombini is about 12 min walk. I would only stay here again if it was cheaper or the service was better

Get the Japanese breakfast, was awesome to eat beside the zen garden! Lovely hospitality as well

Didn't realize how far away from main attractions this place is (about an hour by bus from eastern Kyoto). Otherwise no complaints

We really enjoyed the traditional Japanese breakfast every morning. All the staff were wonderful and we got clean towels and toiletries every day.

Nothing at all, it was perfect. We wanted to stay far from the noise of the city, this was wonderful and just 10min walk to Lawson and 20min walk to Anytime Fitness gym. There are bus stops within a minute walk so you can just ride it if you don’t feel like walking.

    9XavierPosted on: 1-25-2025

Very charming little Izakaya, a bit far from everything, but the bus can get you wherever you want.

    7SaloméPosted on: 1-23-2025

The japanese breakfast is to die for and the location is great since the bus stop is 100m away. The staff is very kind and helpful. It is the perfect traditional experience.

It was very cold in the hallway and bathroom, almost unbearable. Perhaps staying here in the winter is not the best option.

    9WiederholdPosted on: 1-1-2025

Very quiet location. Excellent acoustic isolation between rooms. Very good Japanese Breakfast (extra)

The place was further out than we first understood. After figuring out the buses it really was not an issue.
